FLYING THE SECRET SKY: THE STORY OF THE RAF FERRY COMMAND

In 1940 as Nazi air strikes devastated Britain, the RAF called on a rowdy bunch of airline pilots, barnstormers and daredevils for help. Braving the unforgiving Northern Atlantic, these men delivered tens of thousands of American-built bombers to the UK during the war’s darkest hour.

They flew unarmed, in the deadliest of weather and circumstance, embodying the improvisational spirit that was key to the eventual Allied victory.

Among the pilots was an American civilian chosen to fly Winston Churchill to secret wartime meetings during the darkest days of WWII. It turns out this young man was the filmmaker’s own father.

FLYING THE SECRET SKY: THE STORY OF THE RAF FERRY COMMAND premiered on public television stations in November 2008.

FLYING THE SECRET SKY is presented by WGBH.

PoGo was thrilled to bring this amazing World War II story to the public television world by way of a station relations campaign.
